Rainbows are lovely to see and may look like magic, but there's easy science that explains how they happen.
Rainbows come when sunlight and rain mix in the sky. Sunlight has many colors, and when it goes through water drops in the air, the colors split apart. This is called refraction. It makes sunlight bend and the colors spread out.
