Özlem Türeci
Özlem Türeci was born in Lastrup, Germany to Turkish parents. Her father was a Turkish physician who immigrated from Istanbul. He worked in a small Catholic hospital.
Türeci admired the nuns who took care of patients at her father's hospital. She could not imagine having a different profession. Türeci studied medicine at Saarland University, where she met Uğur Şahin, who would be her husband and business partner.
