On the evening of April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic, a massive and luxurious passenger liner, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship, which was on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, began taking on water rapidly and ultimately sank less than three hours after hitting the iceberg.
