Children in Germany eagerly anticipate Saint Nicholas Day, known as Nikolaustag, celebrated on December 6. It is the feast day of Nicholas of Myra, known for his miracles and for secretly giving gifts.
Although Nicholas of Myra inspired the modern-day figure of Santa Claus, the saint is not to be confused with the latter, which Germans call the Weihnachtsmann or Father Christmas.
