Hanukkah, known as "The Festival of Lights," is an eight-day Jewish celebration that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. During the 2nd century BCE, Jews –led by Judah Maccabee– fought for years to drive the Syrians out of Jerusalem. After their victory, Judah asked his followers to cleanse the temple and light the menorah.
