So what better way to learn a new language than by listening to music or trying out a new recipe! Besides, language learning doesn’t have to be a boring part of your busy schedule. But before you get lost in translation, you might need to brush up on your language skills. Need help with creating a language study schedule?

1. Set A Goal

As you begin your language learning journey, the first thing you need to do is to “Set A Goal.” The goal is up to you. You can make it a personal one. You can make it as vague as you want. You can make it a daily or a weekly goal. It can even be as simple as completing one lesson a day or reading five stories a week.

You've got this!

Start with something simple, then proceed to bigger and more ambitious goals. Having a goal will help you stay focused and keep you motivated. Who knows, maybe after five language sessions you’d be reading The Great Gatsby in Russian, Spanish, or any language of your choice!

Quick note: make sure to note down your goals, so you are reminded of the things you need to accomplish.

2. Set Aside A Specific Time

Our days can get very busy with work, running errands, and other things in between. So learning a new language usually ends up being a side thing. However, language learning doesn’t have to take a day’s work. A perk about learning a new language at your leisure, is the ability to “Set Up Your Schedule.” Just set aside a specific time of when to practice.

Clock ticking. tick, tick, tick...

Remember, YOU are your boss here, so you get to choose when, what time, and for how long you want to study. You can study first thing in the morning or right before you go to bed. Really, the choice is yours! The more consistent you are with this routine, the more this becomes part of your schedule. And then, this just becomes second nature to you!

3. Be Flexible

Check how far you are towards reaching your goal. If your goal was to do 10 minutes of language practice a day, check your records if you are hitting the 10-minute mark. If, for some reason you are not hitting your mark, do not stress because what matters most is you trying. It is okay and just take it slow.

On the other hand, if you are hitting your marks and getting more practice done, then hooray! You are on your way to reaching those three gold stars. Keeping track of your progress helps you plan your next goal. It also helps motivate you to keep that streak going. I mean you don't want to lose that 90-days streak, do you?

5. Reward Yourself

*Drum roll* Now that you’ve reached your goal, you may now “Reward Yourself” with the gift of your choice! Rewarding yourself is a great motivation to keep learning.

Self-care tips

Hungry? Care for some delicious treats, maybe some delectable bonbons, or some crispy churros dipped in chocolate, or even some chewy matcha flavored mochi?

In need of a quick shopping therapy? Why not, after all learning a new language is hard work and those cute journals look perfect for taking notes.

Had an intense study session? Perhaps, a movie or a karaoke night could help de-stress and refresh you! Your reward should be related to the size of your accomplishment, so be careful not to overindulge in rewarding yourself.

Remember: self-care is key.
