There are superstitions and there are also love-stitions. These two types of –stitions are beliefs or practices that are known to bring some sort of luck in life and love. Sometimes, they can even determine your destiny… and since you stepped on doggy doo-doo with your left foot just now that means you will have good luck coming your way. The question is: will that poop luck be the charm you need to shoo away negative juju that is affecting your love life? Maybe. But the answer is really up to you on how you want to translate this funny accident.

That’s the thing about old wives' tales, they are funny and interesting and even ridiculous. Yet, we continue to believe in them. Other times, we don’t. One thing is for certain: we interpret these tales in our own ways. But when it comes to matters of the heart, that’s a different story. Because sometimes we use these tales as symbols or important rituals to find and keep that love. Of course, there is nothing wrong with it as long as they don't get in the way of what you want to do and what your heart desires.

Before you read on and learn about different love superstitions that have ~influenced~ people’s romantic lives, just remember to always have fun in whatever you do because YOU make your own luck.   • Picking off flower petals Want to figure out if your special someone loves you? Well then, it’s time to consult a glorious flower for this. Any flower would work, but if you have a daisy then that might be better. So, as you pluck a petal, you say: (He/She/They) loves me. Then, you pluck another and say: (He/She/They) loves me not. Repeat this until you run out of petals. Whichever line that your final petal lands on will tell you the divine truth about how your darling feels and thinks about you.
    The game is thought to have French origins, and in its French version, the petals represented the depth of a person's affections.

  • Crying your heart out If you see a bride-to-be crying her heart out days before her wedding, worry not. According to a Chinese superstition, the bride-to-be should cry 15 to 30 days before the wedding. If the bride-to-be cries oceans, her marriage will likely be a happier one because the crying intensity is considered to indicate how a marriage will end.

  • Bouquet toss Ooh, it’s the tossing of the bridal bouquet, so get ready to catch it for some love and luck! It's believed that whoever catches the bouquet will get married next. This old wives’ tale is said to have originated in England in the late 14th century and is based on the idea that getting something from the bride's wedding gown was lucky. As a result, after the wedding the guests would try and rip pieces of the dress just for a stroke of luck.

  • Forward this email or… Beep. Beep. Beep. You’ve got mail! Do you remember receiving those pesky spam emails that always ended with a message that goes something like this: “If you send📮✈️ this ✏️ letter✏️ to 1️⃣ 2️⃣ people by midnight 🔦🕛, then your crush 😉 ✨ 🥰 ✨ will ask 💭 you out tomorrow 💋💋💋. If you break 👁👄👁 this CHAIN letter, you’ll end up brokenhearted 💔❗️💔❗️💔❗ for the rest of your life 🥺😭😡.”

    Yes, it’s a tale of emails that can be quite silly for some people. However, no one can deny the fact that we all passed this chain email just before midnight, because we couldn't risk ruining our chances of finding love in the future.

  • Toss a coin in the Trevi fountain When in Rome, do as the Romans do! And make sure you toss two coins in the Trevi fountain. Not one, but TWO coins should be thrown into the Trevi fountain so that you can return to Rome and fall in love. Legend says that if you toss three coins, you will marry the person that you meet. So, toss carefully.

  • Count 99 horses & 1 white mule It’s never too late for that person and about 100 horses to come around. Right? That’s a lot of horses, yep. Well, this Nebraskan lore states that if you come across 99 horses and 1 white mule, then you shake a man’s hand, that man will be the husband of your dreams.

  • Sleep on a piece of wedding cake If you’re about to attend a wedding sometime soon, make sure to take a slice of cake home with you! Why you may ask? Just you know… so you can dream of your future lover. All you have to do is put a slice of this sweet goodness under your pillow, sleep, and then dream. Though, this might get messy and sticky so… food for thought?

  • Return the knives A knife shouldn't be given as a gift that you keep, because according to folklore a sharp knife is used to cut things. To put it another way, a knife is a metaphor for getting rid of unwanted items.

  • Say hello to the spider The itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout. Down came the rain, and sadly it washed the spider out. Out came mister sun and he dried up all the rain. So, the itsy bitsy spider decided to pay you a visit on your wedding day. When you see this itsy, bitsy spider, just say hello and smile because the spider is there to symbolize a happy marriage.

  • No weddings in May “Marry in May and rue the day. Oh, they say if you marry in June, you’ll be a bride all your life.” Now, this could just be a playful rhyme to say, but if you want a happy marriage, avoid the month of May and schedule your wedding in another month, ey.
