If you guessed that the Victorian Era has something to do with a person named Victoria, you are correct. In fact, the Victorian Era in Great Britain is the period of growth and expansion of the British Empire under the reign of Queen Victoria between 1837 and 1901. The Victorian Era is also known as the Golden Age of English Literature, and it was during this time that British novels became an important part of the ongoing reading phenomenon as a result of the Industrial Revolution. Some of the famous British novelists in Victorian England include the three Brontë sisters (Charlotte, Emily, & Anne), Rudyard Kipling, Charles Dickens, William Thackeray, George Eliot, George Gissing, and George Meredith.

Okay, pay attention to the names of those British novelists. They seem and sound normal, right? Even if you think of the character names of their written works, they still seem and sound normal. Right? Well, that’s probably because we are used to hearing those pretty and familiar names for centuries, Victorian times or not.

Now, what if I tell you that there are more interesting and possibly head-scratching names out there during Victorian times. No, I’m not talking about the variations of the name Charles like Charlotte, Charlene, and Charlie. I am talking about “interesting” names that sound more unique than modern celebrity baby names. Yes, even people back then were very creative with names. Just scroll down and find out these names.
