In an Italian calendar, the week always begins with Monday and ends with Sunday. Also, the days of the week, aka i giorni della settimana, are fairly easy to remember. You could even make a catchy tune with some clapping to help you remember these Italian days!
Tips:
- Italian is a phonetic language, so the letters are pronounced as they are written.
- When a definite article (il or la) isn’t used at the beginning of the day, the day referred to in the sentence is the one coming up.
- When a definite article (il or la) is used at the beginning of the day, this signifies that the action is repeated in time.
- Days from Monday (lunedì) to Saturday (sabato) are masculine and use the masculine article il:
- il lunedì
- il martedì
- il mercoledì
- il giovedì
- il venerdì
- il sabato
- Sunday (domenica) is a feminine word and uses the feminine article la:
- la domenica
- Days of the week in Italian are not capitalized.
- Monday (lunedì) to Friday (venerdì) all end in “dì,” which consists of d+ì (the letter ì has the grave accent `).
