The key to learning Dutch is learning Dutch phrases like how to say “goodbye” and its many versions. Because as you know there are different ways to say bye bye bye in Dutch. There are formal ways. There are informal ways. There are cool ways too, or something like that.

What’s even more fun is that you can say these different Dutch goodbyes to others even if they don’t speak Dutch. It would be just a way to practice your Dutch and share with them how goodbye can be said in a different way. Okay, all that bit sounds a little redundant, but I know you know what I mean. Anyway, you should try any one of these farewell greetings today, tomorrow, or whenever you remember them. Fun fact: whenever you say “doei” or “dag” or other Dutch sayings you increase your aura points.

  • bye: doei (doo-ee)
  • goodbye: dag (dahk)
  • catch you later: zie je later (zee yeh lah-ter)
  • take care: wees voorzichtig (vayz for-zik-tik)
  • see you later: tot later (tot lah-ter)
  • until later: tot later (tot lah-ter)
  • see you tomorrow: tot morgen (tot mor-khen)
  • see you then: tot dan (tot dan)
  • see you tonight: tot vanavond (tot fah-nah-vond)
  • see you next week: tot volgende week (tot fol-ghen-duh vayk)
  • see you soon: tot snel (tot snel)
  • until next time: tot de volgende keer (tot duh fol-ghen-duh kayr)
  • see you: tot kijk (tot kayk)
  • I have to run: ik moet er vandoor (ik moot er fan-door)
  • I have to go: ik moet gaan (ik moot hahn)
  • farewell: vaarwel (fahr-vel)
  • have a great weekend: fijn weekend (fayn vee-kend)
