Did you know that using abbreviations when texting is another effective way to convey your message? Yes, that is in fact very true. Therefore, there is no need for you to question this style of texting any longer, be it in German or English or whatever language you choose to text.

So, whenever your thumbs are tired from texting and scrolling or you are just feeling lazy to type out an entire message, use texting abbreviations. This manner of texting is simple, easy, and very convenient. Even that principal that reminds you of Miss Trunchbull probably texts using abbreviations...

Common German Text Abbreviations

  • I love you: ild (Ich liebe dich)
  • no problem: kp (kein Problem) or kd (kein Ding)
  • too long; didn’t read: zl;ng (zu lang; nicht gelesen)
  • maybe: vllt or vlt (vielleicht)
  • I like you: hdl (hab dich lieb)
  • nothing: nix (nichts)
  • see you soon: bb (bis bald)
  • see you later: bs (bis später)
  • see you tomorrow: bm (bis morgen)
  • good night: gn8 (gute Nacht)
  • no idea: ka (keine Ahnung)
  • in real life: irl (im richtigen Leben)
  • laugh out loud: lol (laughing out loud)
  • oh my god: omg (oh mein Gott)
  • actually: eig (eigentlich)
  • have fun: vv (viel Vergnügen)
  • okay: io (in Ordnung)
  • by the way: btw (by the way)
  • kind regards: lg (Liebe Grüße)
